Rediscover Passion and Happiness In Your Life

My passion is looking for scientifically proven tools to:

  1. Turn down the volume on negative emotions (e.g., anger, fear, sadness) and neutral emotions (i.g., apathy and disengagement).
  2. Turn up the volume on positive emotions (e.g., contentment, joy, love, curiosity, amusement, interest, relaxation, pride)

Only in the past few years has the field of psychology recognized

  1. The significance of positive emotions
  2. That we can teach sustainable happiness and meaning in life
  3. Why it is critical that we learn to turn up the volume on the positive.

John Schinnerer, Ph.D. Positive Psychologist

John Schinnerer, Ph.D. Positive Psychologist

Hope is an often over used word in today’s world, but perhaps it needs to be examined it a great more detail in these tumultuous times.  Dr. John Schinnerer examines some important facets of that every day notion of hope……..

To what extent is hope necessary or relevant for these difficult times? The world is besieged by economic, military, educational, and healthcare problems which seem to be insurmountable. In such a world, of what possible use is hope?

Is the honeymoon over? Or perhaps some people just weren’t committed to the relationship.   It’s been a couple of weeks since this historic event in both US and World history has taken place and the US recovery seems further away than every before and there are many people who have already changed the placard from hope to doom.

With hundreds of thousands of jobs gone, some countries are better off than the US and some are not, but we all face the same question.

The “Positive Imperative” of Hope

PI Founder, Victor Sinclair examines the impact of Barack Obama and the hope imperative.

Why are people all over the world getting so wrapped up in Barack Obama?   It’s easy to understand why Americans are getting more excited about Obama than any President since John F. Kennedy, as he is bringing new hope to millions throughout the land.  Is all the excitement also because he’s going to change the countries economy and world status in a very short time?  Most people including Barack himself have said, that’s not going to happen.  Is it because he’s going to change both the fate of a country and thus maybe the world and if so why?

As a non lay person of world politics and economics it’s far beyond my expertise to analyze why the world is in this particular plight of negativity, except to say when lyrics of songs from the 70’s like the O’Jays “Love Train” ring as true today as they did 40+ years ago, much hasn’t changed.  When Ultimate Wrestling reminds us of Romans and Gladiators we must conclude that nothing much has changed, or has it?

Part of the dialog of the Positive Imperative, in its simple form is …. “More of this” and “Less of that” with the conversation focus on the more of this. This of course applies to music as well.
