Change The World

At a recent seminar that I attended, I had my heart opened up to the dire state our world, our humanity is in. You see, before, I knew things were bad. I understood that war was happening, I understood that children were living in poverty. I understood that I needed to do something, but I was paralyzed by large numbers, unsure as to where I could start that would make a big enough impact to make a change.
The seminar, titled, Love Into Action, was held by Marianne Williamson and Andrew Harvey. The facts that they gave to all of us were quite simple, and yet so profound. Every year 58,000 children die from starvation. 58,000! My first thought was that’s not surprising… but WHOA!! Wait a minute!! How normal is it that a child dies from starvation? When did we get to a point where a number like this doesn’t surprise us, that we accept the fact that this is the way it ‘just is’. As pointed out in the seminar, if our child was to come home from school drunk or high, we would look at them, put our foot down and state, loudly and clearly, THIS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED IN MY HOUSE! And now is the time for us to look at the suffering in the world, and state, loudly and clearly, THIS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED IN MY WORLD! For too long we have talked about the changes that need to be made. We need to love one another as though they are our brother, we need to look after all of the children, even those not born to us…. we need to, we need to, we need to. Now is the time to stop saying we need to, and to start saying, Now I am ____________ (fill in the blank to the cause that affects you the most that you want to make a change to). As Johnny Reid states in his song, Today I’m Going To Try To Change The World, it takes one step at a time. Perhaps, it’s only smiling at a neighbour, or giving old clothing to those in need, but today is the day that we need to change the world. Today is the day that we need to come together and look out for one another. Today is the day we need to bring positivity back, humanity back, and LOVE back. Today is the day. Today I’m Going To Try To Change The World, by Johnny Reid What can you do to help out? What passions do you have, or special talents do you possess that you could share with others to benefit them? This is where I typically got stuck– the big unanswered question, What can I do to help? And the answer came easily once I knew what to ask. My special talents include music, writing, singing, public speaking, time management, and inspiring others. I’ve been told that I am very easy to talk to. In my career, this is what I focus on, and now I will be taking it out into the public eye with volunteer work, at a local food bank as well as my local Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization. Our family also contributes regularly to various organizations in the form of money donations, and every year, each child fills a shoe box for Operation Christmas Child. These are small steps that we’re taking, and yet I find myself wanting to do more. Many times people will come to me and state, I don’t know what my life purpose is. I don’t feel fulfilled, etc. And the truth is, no one will ever feel fulfilled unless they are giving and sharing their love with others. That’s where personal fulfillment comes from. That is where happiness comes from. When you are able to see your life as a place of abundance, rather than scarcity, you are then able to look at others and say I can help. It’s a two fold situation. So what will you do today to help change the world?

Until next time,
Live love, and love life,
xo Catherine
