Posithanks ~ More than 30 ideas of different ideas of things to be grateful for”

PosiThanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Renewal is one of many things to be grateful for.

Themes Of Gratitude for this Easter week is Renewal. It's the Positive Imperative.

Inspired by the spirit of Easter, which is rebirth and new beginnings, we are grateful this week for renewal. The universe teaches us that every end is a new beginning; this can mean starting over after a certain failure, forgiving someone that might have hurt us and renew the relationship, letting go of the past and embracing what lies ahead, or simply going for a new look or a home renovation. We are thankful for that spirit deep down in each of us that can lift us up and help us begin again every time we’re down!

We thank the spirit of renewal that allows us to evolve and grow. It corresponds with nature that is ever new and ever growing. New ideas, new beginnings, new hopes are the drive that keeps us going and evolving all the time!

So thank you Easter and thanks for the spirit of renewal.

365 ideas of Gratitude and thanfulness PosiThanks is a weekly program of a critical foundation of Positivity. PosiThanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme this week is 177 and we    are grateful for the game of Scrabble, suggested by Bashaar Trefi.

So who is Alfred Mosher Butts and how has he affected your life?  Simple as you may have gathered by the intro and pic in 1938 this architect invented the game of Scrabble, perhaps second only to Monopoly as the world’s most popular board game.  In fact 1 out of 3 American homes have the game, and a total of 150 million games have been sold in 121 countries and 19 languages.
Scrabble is one of the most Positive Games that can be played. Playing games of Positivity is the Positive Imperative

A filled out Scrabble board with many well thought out words.

It’s also one of those board games you know isn;’t going anywhere any time soon and will likely be around for generations to come be it played in a Living Room or on-line with the many options available to play there as well.  An obvious quality of the game is that it is a win-win.  You play to have fun and you learn as you go.  My dear friend and mentor Ric Wellwood taught me every two letter word in the dictionary that I never knew existed.  So while having fun you end up being a better speller, learning the meaning of more words, learning the history / ethnic origin of words, and all of this combined give your brain a pretty good work out as well, which the Web Site Luminosity will point out is critical to brain health.

Not lost in all the benefits of Scrabble is the fact that this game is yet another opportunity to bring the world a bit closer as you can play people all over the world, as I do with my friend Bashaar Trefi who lives in Syria and was born and raised there.   That in it self give me a lot of thanks, as I know though he lives in a part of the country that is not in as much turmoil as the rest, the stress of living there and possibly being conscripted to the national army has got to be stressful, and if this provides even a small bit of reprieve from that stress, it think its wonderful.
Oh, did I add that playing Scrabble may also give you a positive dose of humility?  Yes indeed though a lot of our games are pretty even, Bashaar had definitely schooled me a few times by winning by a large margin.  Though I know at the end of the day, winning and losing does not matter to each of us, it’s simply having the comradeship and the joy of the game I will always admire someone who can take me to task at my mother tongue when English is his second language.
So thank you Alfed, Hasbro and Matel.  I don’t know if you could have possibly known how many MILLIONS of hours of entertainment you have provided humanity with in a great Positive healthy learning enviroment that is also so much fun.
Positive Imperative Question  PIQ   So, it is simple, and its nice to talk about, however making your life more positive and happy will only work if you actually take the time and pause to give thanks, at least once, but  preferably a couple or several times a day to form the habit of gratitude.  What are you grateful for? Big Hugs!

PosiThanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme this week is 176 and we are grateful for good news publications.
.
Ok so we know bad news sells, and that it’s human nature to run down the street if there’s a fire, but does it really have to be that way.  If you take the principle that we are what we think about, or we go where our thoughts focus on, do we really need to watch 50 minutes of  murders and fires every night of the week.  Good news apparently doesn’t sell.  We have our selves to blame for that one.  What we demand and watch IS what sells.
Extension-poster-page-001More importantly it also becomes the culture we report.  Over the last number of mass shootings some people astutely said, I don’t want to name the shooter and help promote his fame.  I don’t like the idea that Mark David Chapman is a house hold word because he shot John Lennon.  Well do we want to tell 15 and 16 year old kids, hey if you shoot somebody you’ll be famous and we’ll put you on the news… and create quite a buzz in the hood… oh but that 15 or 16 year old youth who joined a mentoring program and raised some money for cancer, we don’t want to put him on the news, it’s just not news worthy…. oh and if we feel compelled to or it’s a short news day we’ll put his story on at 55 minutes after the hour because it’s only got 10% of the audience that the first 15 minutes has, and we’ve got to feature a lot of scandal and emergency vehicles in that quarter hour.
Ooops… I think you caught me venting a bit…. but suffice to say for every bad news item out there, there are 100 great positive news items and stories that go untold, except for those who “get it” and realize that we MUST start telling the GOOD NEWS stories to change the tide so eventually larger publications and news channels will do the same.  There is some hope as even CNN has created a yearly heros program.  New we need to promote publications like Good News Toronto, and please like their Good News Toronto Face Book Page, but I am a bit partial because their Editor/Publisher,  Eva Karpati is a Positive Imperative member 🙂 too,    But let’s not stop there… look in your own community, there are good news publications of all varieties including  Good News Los Angeles  and  Good News Philippines .  If you city doesn’t have one then start one.  If they do, then for goodness sake support them, read them and promote them and be THANKFUL that you do, because they are the Pioneers of the new priority news… which is Positive News of course.  Oh that reminds me… I think we can get a self plug in for the Positive Imperative paper called PosiNews too.  Check it out, subscribe and share.
Positive Imperative Question  PIQ   How much time do you spend seeking out and supporting Positive News.  Positive news give hope, demonstrates by example, give needed recognition, and used the law of displacement to accentuate the positive and lead by example.   Moreover it tells a better perspective of reality and a balances perspective between bad news that sells, and good news that actually helps change the world!
Big Hugs!

PosiThanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme this week is 175 and we are grateful for the Smiley Face.
smiley facesSmiley Faces were huge in the 70’s almost like a fad.  There were tee shirts, mugs, Frisbee  almost anything you can think of could have a smile face slapped on it.    Bud fads come and go, it seems like the smiley face was destined to stay with us.  Who knew that years later we would have technology that incorporated something called “Emoticons”, a little tiny symbol that yes, started with a smiley face.  At first just a semi-colon and a bracket, but then of course that : and ) turned into :).
But where did this smile face all start?  We’re not sure about the artist, but the first recorded smile face was actually way back in 1948 in Ingmar Bergman‘s film “Hamnstad“.  We don’t know who the graphic artist is, but I’m sure if he were receiving a message on Facebook that had a happy face on it, he would get a real kick.
We’re thankful for our smiley faces because in an instant where often written communication can be misconstrued, and quick smile face, sets the tone and spreads some positive energy, which is always so needed and a very positive thing indeed.

Plant_PosiThanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme this week is 174 and we are grateful for the house plant.

house plants.  It’s yet another think you can look around the living room and not pay any attention to, or you can take a minute and remind yourself it’s a wonderful way to keep nature within arms reach and at the same time add some aesthetic quality to the room.
For the green thumbs their a love of labour, and for the green thumb challenged, they can be, well a learning experience and also a lesson on perseverance  not to mention education, …how much light, how much water, and yes of course you can even talk to your plants for their health, and when you do, don’t forget to say thank you for your beautiful presence.   It may feel weird to some of you but truly it can only raise the bar, ’cause its all positive!

Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme this week is 173 and we are grateful for the heavenly aroma when cookie baking comes to our kitchen.
cookiesThere is that time when you’re sitting in the living room and all of a sudden this wonderful aroma finds its way from the Kitchen to your nose.  There are some that appeals to everyone and some that are triggered because of your grandmother.  For me…. the baking of chocolate chip cookies will do it for me every time.
Indeed if you are one of the new generation of study the brain people you will know that smell is governed by the occipital lobe, and is actually one of “the” strongest sense activations if the brain especially when it comes to memory, which is why if as a kid when you grew up, if it was your grandma that was doing the cookie baking, you’ll instantly be drawn back to one of the nicest memories of your life, and that’s something pretty cool to be thankful for!

Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme this week is 172 and we are grateful for Cabinet Makers.

There is something about the smell of sawdust, and there is something about the crafting of wood that has such a great appeal.  With modern CNC machines, many think that the art of wood working is soon to be lost, however I think not.  As long as there are those who love working with wood, and love to custom design the cabinets, their facing, the trim and continue the traditions of these hundreds of year old skills, there will always be art in the craft of wood working using hand tools to cut, shape, trimming  joints and fitting parts and assemblies together to form a complete unit, sanding wooden surfaces and applying veneers and laminates, applying finishing materials such as stain or polish, and then rubbing, buffing and polishing the finish.
When you’re done, you have something to be very grateful for….. a work of art called a kitchen made by the craftsman cabinet maker.  Am I partial, absolutely, as my son Richard helped create this beauty, making me so proud !  :>)

Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme this week is 171 and we are grateful for our favorite things.  So the nice think about this topic is it could be anything.  Simple pleasures are the best, as one expression goes, so one of your favorite things could simply be a back scratch, or your favorite tea.  If you’re the Bare Naked Ladies and you had a Million Dollars your favorite thing could reveal itself because money would be no object and yes you would still have Macaroni & Cheese.
The magical lyrics of Oscar Hammerstein captured the whole idea of gratitude with the song a Few Of My Favorite Things.
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Or maybe it’s just sittin’ down with a friend and makin’ some music.  So easy to be grateful for that!  J Rabbit (2012); Jung Da Woon (L) & Jung Hye Sun (R)

Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme this week is 170 and we are grateful for our mistakes.
So we need to know that there are many things we are grateful for that

are so easy to understand, like our health and our family but we must work to not take them for granted…. and then there are the things we can be grateful for that are not natural to do, because we have had years of culture telling is that they are such bad things we brand them with the word “FAIL” ! as a new and often sarcastic way to make fun of somebody when they don’t succeed.  This make us even more unhappy about mistakes which is simply not positive or productive, and can form a domino effect of NegiRipples….. and if you are prone to EQ issues like losing your temper or playing the blame game on others…..”it’s their fault”…,and then they can go and create a whole lot of negative over and above the mistake.  The worst of them is the dirty trick when you blame yourself…that can lead to not even trying again and the fear of failure.
So what we should do to make this feed into your Positivity is do a “PosiSwap”, substitute the negative with a positive and instead of feeling upset about the mistake, be grateful for it, as a new learning experience that is not only an expected part of the journey but also in the long run quite often will prove beneficial, especially if we are going to think about it Positiviely because that increases our minds possibilities instead of turning your mind off and now may actually help you avoid a bigger and more serious catastrophe down the road.   It’s now looked at happily as a learning experience!

Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme this week is 169 Wal-Mart Associates.
Ok so everyone has their opinion of Wal-Mart, good and challenging, and likely that goes hand in hand with their staff.  Like all large companies I’m sure their staff fall into a wide range of popularity and efficiency, however on Saturday, I was helped by one in particular that reminded me that most of the time any associate I’ve ever dealt with has been courteous and helpful.
On Saturday I had to go from one end of the store… to the other, but this time I was on crutches, and my right leg was pretty sore to say the least…. I had to go to the food section but also on the other side of the store I had already looked for a gym bag and not found one, and guessed maybe they were over in the sports apparel section.  By the time I got there, the bag in the area were not really core gym bags so I was in search of a staff member and very tired.   Well this kind lady / associate name Ohla, from India I believe, said to me, don’t you worry, stay right here I will go to the sports section and fetch you back some gym bags for you.  Off she went and was back with a couple to choose from.  Now you may say, that was her “job” quote un quote, however many people in this world simply would have pointed and said try isle 2 in the sports department, after all, that was all she “had” to do, she was assigned to apparel.
SO, was I grateful?  You bet.  And I took the time to tell customer service of her good deed as I know Wal-mart does keep track of those things, and I also know that the BBB will tell you that complaints to compliments always range between 6 : 1 and 10 : 1, ’cause people will always find the time to bolster their ego when it comes time to bitch and complain, but seldom make the effort to say thank you and do it in a meaningful way, so the staff member gets recognized by their company.   A Big Thank you to Ohala…. and a reminder to myself…self… wal-mart staff are people too… remember to pay attention and try and make their day too!

Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme this week is Luggage Wheels theme 168.  Many young people will only know that luggage from most of the 20th century had no wheels by watching an old movie.  Travel around an international airport today and just about every luggage piece has got one.   Like a stickey note and velcro and just about every other invention that matters it can often be traced to one thing, or one person.  Today we thank Bernard D. Sadow, who invented the first prototype of luggage on wheels.  Without who many of us would have smaller suitcases and strained backs.

Mr. Sadow, who is now 85, had a eureka moment in 1970 as he slugged two heavy suitcases through an airport coming back from a family vacation in Aruba. While at customs,  he observed a worker effortlessly rolling a heavy machine on a wheeled skid. “I said to my wife, ‘You know, that’s what we need for luggage,’ ” Mr. Sadow recalled.  Well as the story goes when Sadow got back to work, he took casters off a wardrobe trunk and mounted them on a big travel suitcase. “I put a strap on the front and pulled it, and it worked,” he said.

And he still owns that patent to this invention to the very day.  Thank you Bernard… your creative genius .. but really common sense made you a lot of money and us a lot happier.    I’m sure many a heavy traveler or flight attendant and airline pilot would treat you like their best friend, but likely you don’t tell them.

Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme this week is New Beginnings, theme 167.  Many Goal coaches will tell you that New Years is not the best time to create new goals.  Why, because that well thought out goals and change come with a good deal of preparation and a plan. However if you are dedicated and spend time on creating a plan and also examine the reason why New Years can provide a mile stone occasion for you to start a new beginning.
The best way to show your gratitude for your opportunity to have a new beginning is to work at it and succeed.

Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme this week is Christmas, theme 166.  Christmas goes hand in hand with the topic of gratitude.   There are many parallel religious holidays that are similar to the Christian holiday and indeed several share the story of the birth of Jesus.   Of course there’s the secular interpretation of Christmas as well, and while one side of it has always been associated with merchandise and commercialism, even the secular variation shares in the spiritual side with the significant parts that have both purpose and meaning.   Being grateful for all that one has including family, quality of life, health, friends and so much more.  There is the spirit of giving, and fellowship and for one time of year people seem to all have a better focus on what is important in this world.  While it’s not perfect, we are indeed grateful for Christmas as for many of us it is the one time we can slow down and focus on what matters.

Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme today is Courage, theme 165.  Courage     There are no words to express the braveness of 27 year old Sandy Hook 1st Grade Teacher had the courage to confront the gunman and did everything she could to protect her students.    There really are no words to adequately describe how grateful we are when any one gives the ultimate sacrifice of their life simply trying to do the best they can in such tragic circumstances.  All the ever wanted to be was a public school teacher, yet to those parents of the children she herded into cupboards she has taught them and us forever the meaning of courage, and quite a lot about love too!

Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme today is Composers, theme 164.
There are no words when music is created and lyrics aren’t accompanied.  Sometimes lyrics come later, sometimes the composer (who could be one in the same) come after the lyrics are written, and some times its an instrumental standalone.    There is of course no one type of composer.  There are the classics, from Beethoven to Strauss, from Bach to Mozart.   Could be Jazz from Dave Brubeck, to Chuck Mangione, could be from the 70s like Francis Lai or Peter Nero, the best of the best are masters of melody.  Many have made good films great, like John Williams with many charted hits or our Bond writer John Barry.
The gift of music is priceless and we are grateful for the good feelings and many hours of enjoyment they have given us as well as the hundred of hours they spent honing their craft.  The world would simply not be the same without the Blue Danube, Take Five, Balavia, the Theme From Summer of 42 or one of my all time favourites Them From A Summer Place.  French Horns never had it so good! :), thanks Max Steiner.

Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme today is Freedom of Speech, theme 163.
Today we are thankful for something we often take for granted but for those of us who have the luxery of this quality of life, we often forget that many people in the world do not.  Religion, gender, nationality and censorship are all factors in the removal of this important element of democracy and humanity evolving.
“If freedom of speech is taken away, then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.”
~ George Wasington
However even those in countries must be vigilant in order to maintain this freedom, as forces of fear and control are always conspiring to reduce, control or remove certain abilities to express ourselves freely.

Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme today is Researchers, theme 162.

Researchers are behind the development of technology, food, health & science, industry, psychology, demographics and just about every aspect of our world today.    While the most famous like Einstein  or Edison by profession or a Benjamin Franklin by lifestyle, for every famous and rewarded researcher there is another million who are the un-sung heroes of our everyday life.  I could be a simple thing like Velcro or sticky notes or a development in magnetic imagery that becomes responsible for saving somebody’;s life.

Researchers are often the definition of resilience, perseverance and fortitude.  Sometimes they have the corelation between what they are working on and what the benefits of their findings will be, but often they persue in driven by curiosity and the yearn to evolve with no specific design expect to evolve the discovery and knowledge process.  We owe them all our debt of gratitude, as everything from the keyboard I’m typing on to the light bulb is their gift to us.

Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme 161 Today we are thankful for our flash mobs. Flash Mobs  So much work goes into a performance that may last 3 minutes 7 if you`re lucky and they do two songs.  Recently I saw a cute one for the taping of one of my fave tv shows the Big Bang Theory. The most famous two I think are the one from the Oprah Winfrey show, I Gotta Feeling – and the Sound of Music which I think really got Flash Mob`s Going as it so captured the essence of a surprise in the middle of a day where people commute, they`re in a rush and so often their minds are like a zombie and they are running on auto-pilot.  The flash-mob kind-a- slaps you in the face and says… hey pay attention to the world you live in, you never know what`s going to happen.  Thanks to all those dedicated people who practice for hours, and commuted for miles to put a smile on some strangers faces.   Then without a word of thanks went back to their daily routines. It does not get any better than the Antwerp Train Station. 8 million view plus. ————————- —————————— Positive Imperative Question PIQ So, it is simple, and its nice to talk about, however making your life more positive and happy will only work if you actually take the time and pause to give thanks, at least once, but  preferably a couple or several times a day to form the habit of gratitude.  What are you grateful for? Theme 160 Today we are thankful for our favorite movies. If you really think about your all time fave movies and then compare them with your best friends they may be totally different styles and genres of movies, but they will always have one common reason as to why they are one of your all time best movies; they make you feel good.  They fit like a well worn glove.  You know some of the lines to the movie, there’s a best part of it, you use to rewind and watch over and over again. For our family it’s never been about the war movie, or the thriller, it’s really always been either a classic chick flick like Pretty Woman, or an all time classic family movie like Annie or yes, The Sound of Music, though like the Wizard Of Oz, I think both of the latter could stand a good edit.  Today I watched my grand-daughterKaydence, get totally wrapped up in Annie, singing the songs, jumping on the bed and thoroughly enjoying it all, for the 20th time this year.  It reminded me of  how much her mother loved it when she was six.  Great movies usually always have some common classic themes and all of the ones I just mentioned have the theme of Hope and yes a classic happily ever after too! So here’s a big thanks to all the authors who’s books were adapted, the screen writers, who adapted the book, the directors, producers, and actors who helped to tell the great stories.  They have always given us the best of life, lots of positivity should we choose, and we did, and many collective hours of enjoyment. Positive Imperative Question PIQ So, it is simple, and its nice to talk about, however making your life more positive and happy will only work if you actually take the time and pause to give thanks, at least once, but  preferably a couple or several times a day to form the habit of gratitude.  What are you grateful for? Theme 159 Today we are thankful for our shoes, and our lives that fill them. Recently I had the privilege of touring the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. I highly recommend going if you get the chance. In fact, I really think everyone should go. It was no small challenge to balance as much of a tasteful presentation as possible under the circumstances. All graphic pictures were behind a cement wall that adults could look down upon should they choose, or not, but were screened from children. The museum was balanced with not just the World War II story of the war and the atrocity to Jews, Gypsies, Masons, Handicapped and Jehovah Witness, and also included the important element of Neutral with the story of the Curse Of St. Lois a boat denied entry in both Cuba and the US. Best of all, it reconized the heroins that risked their lives and made a difference and also made the critical connection with other such genocide in Cechnya and Rwanda with a focus to educate and examine ways for the world to avoid such madness again with the Genocide Prevention Task Force. Thou shalt not be a victim. Thou shalt not be a perpetrator. Above all, thou shalt not be a bystander. – Holocaust Museum, Washington, DC Of the many pictures, stories and displays like the railway car in which you could touch the walls and know that this was one of many walls where there were once hands clamoring in desperation. The one picture locked in my mind will be the room of shoes with the piles of shoes that once barely protected the feet of so many precious lives. Yet another thing we take for granted each and every day. The shoes on our feet. PIQ Positive Imperative Question. What do you take for granted? Will you try and stop each day and appreciate all that you are given? Big Hugs! It’s not magic. A smile starts with just being there.

Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme 158 Today we are thankful for our Elders Wisdom The most precious resourse we have in wisdom, his the decades and even centuries of knowledge and wisdom we can learn from our Elders. Elders give us love, knowlege, wisdom, humor, stories, candour, humility, and so much more. What do we give Elders. What should we give Elders? Respect? Love? Caring? Empathy? Understanding? If you go to many a seniors or nursing home you’ll find many seniors all alone. The most precious gift they need is of course all of the obove which also translates to your TIME!  “True love can enjoy all the seasons of life from the wonder of our youth to the understanding of our middle age to the mystery of our elder years.” Grant D. Fairley PIQ Positive Imperative Question. What do you give Elders? Are you going to take the time? When? Big Hugs! Why Posithanks could change your life!
Courteous Drivers leave all of us with a smile on our face.

Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme 157 Today we are thankful for courteous drivers. Yet another thing we take for granted is when a courteous driver. A simple act that lets you in traffic gives you another reason to hope. Why is it so important?Courteous driving is important as is each act of kindness. It’s the ripple that continues positivity and diminishes negativity, Courtesy, is a word we seldom use any more….. it’s not an every day word. Courtesy is all about Polite Habits. When we get the courtesy given to us we need to appreciate it and be grateful. Posithanks is all about the study of gratitude as in its deepest elements it’s a lifelong subject to continually learn, apply and master. Being grateful for a driver who let’s you in, in heavy traffic also means you need to try and show that gratitude to really complete the thankfulness. Have you ever gone out of your way to let someone in and they didn’t wave a thank you? How did that make you feel. Did you quip something like Ingrate?

Despite what some people think, most truckers are among the safest and courteous drivers on the road

Courtesy is the first step in kindness. I know many people regard truckers as the evil incarnate of the road, however as I drove a 5 tone tuck in high-school for my summer job I learned to look at them differently. They often have 32ft or even 70ft. of vehicle to manoeuvre and that’s a challenge. The vast majority of them are save and courteous drivers, and like all occupations, a small percentage ruin the reputation of the others. When I stop and consider it… I remember out of four times I was stranded on the road with my family, three of them were by truckers, and in a couple of cases they got the car going again and wouldn’t even take money for a beer. Another great habit of truckers on the highway is their flick it lights habit. One truck flicks his head lights to let the other trucker know it’s save to comeback into his lane while passing and the other truck flicks his clearance lights as a way to thank the first trucker. I’ve loved that trucking tradition for years and adopted it myself. Positive Imperative Qustion PIQ So we often ask with the Positive Imperative…. like the Clocks song states, are you a part of the cure of a part of the disease? Are you a part of the solution or a part of the problem. How will you show your gratitude for courteous drivers? Will you wave, flick your lights, or even become one yourself? Big Hugs! Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme 156 Today we are thankful for our mothers and all the gifts they have given us. My mother is my root, my foundation. She planted the seed that I base my life on, and that is the belief that the ability to achieve starts in your mind. — Michael Jordan If there is one completely unbalanced ratio in this world it is the time, devotion, sacrifice and love given to us by other mothers, which despite our greatest efforts can truly never be fully repaid. For myself who did not have as much time as I would have liked with my mom (who I lost when I was 28), it think of many fond memories from going to Brown School with a baseball bat and glove in hand to teach me and my brother baseball, to the many times she came to root me on from school band performances to that Football Game at Don Mills collegiate where her mere presence helped me get two fumbles and three quarterback sacks. But my fondest memory of all will be the love in her tender voice saying one more time, A.A. Milnes, Christopher Robin is saying his prayer. God Bless Mommy! A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts. — Washington Irving

PI member/admin @Ashley and her son Benjamin

“M” is for the million things she gave me, “O” means only that she’s growing old, “T” is for the tears she shed to save me,”H” is for her heart of purest gold; “E” is for her eyes, with love-light shining, “R” means right, and right she’ll always be, Put them all together, they spell “MOTHER,” A word that means the world to me. — Howard Johnson  Most of all the other beautiful things in life come by twos and threes, by dozens and hundreds. Plenty of roses, stars, sunsets, rainbows, brothers and sisters, aunts and cousins, comrades and friends – but only one mother in the whole world. — Kate Douglas Wiggin Positive Imperative Qustion PIQ So, it is simple to send mom flowers and a card, but is that by habit, or by expectation. Do we really by homage to our mothers in the way we need to? Do we put enough thought into our thanks? Are we thankful for just 1/10 of all the time and gifts they have given us? Have you thought about adopting a senior who has no children to visit? All great food for thought? Big Hugs! Why Posithanks could change your life!

Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme 155 Today we are thankful for fresh clean drinking water every day. There are few things more important than the air to breath, food to eat and water to drink, and few that we take so much for granted. Water CAN be one of the greatest triggers to living a life of gratitude. So what if?…..A positive mind is a positively focused mind. Simple to say, not easy to do. With so many distractions and negativity such as the almost non stop negative news, we need constant reminders to focus on the Positive, and in order to do that effectively we need constant triggers. An easy one to create is rituals. We are creatures of habit, positive and negative, or neutral…. none at all. Creating daily habits like a simple ritual for being thankful for the water we drink will only be accomplished by creating these types of habits.

Sow a thought, reap an action Sow a action, reap a habit Sow a habit, reap a character Sow a character, reap a destiny. – Seneca

So What If…. So what if you were to create an acronym for water and each time you drank it you said, W is for the wealth of health water gives me A is an attitude of gratitude. Next….. Terrific appreciation I have for I know many in the world have no safe drinking water E is for the effort I put in for taking the time to thank people who make a difference R is for a reality check…don’t take clean water for granted or we won’t be here. That’s just a starter, you can create whatever word make the most sense to you, notice the thoughts of being thankful for water are blended with the ritual of reinforcing the importance of all gratitude. The exponential benefits for these types of rituals are phenomenal, and it’s not until you continually practice them, that the wow factor can come in. You’re drinking a bottle of water at a service centre and you notice somebody pull their car a head to allow you to get to the gas pumps. Where as it’s easy to skip eye contact or come up with an excuse like not wanting to raise your voice to get the person to hear you 30 feet away….Bingo, you pay special attention and thank the person for moving their car up a few feet before going in to pay, and do it! The Water Project

  • More than 1 in 6 people in the world don’t have access to safe drinking water.
  • 1 out of every 4 deaths under the age of 5 worldwide is due to a water-related disease.
  • Nearly 80% of illnesses in developing countries are linked to poor water and sanitation conditions.
  • But, for only $10, you can fix that for one person… for ten years!
  • Clean water doesn’t just save lives, it changes them… forever.

Positive Imperative Qustion PIQ So, it is simple, and it is nice to talk about, however reading this blog has not been positive unless it has reinforced current gratitude practices, or you are going to commit to a ritual or personally practice of being thankful, for water or all the other blessings in your life. What choice do you make? Big Hugs! Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme 154 Today we are thankful for a beautiful sunrise. We often watch the weather forecast and mindlessly ignore it, even when the forecast says it’s going to be sunny tomorrow with 0% chance of precipitation. Did you ever think that’s the perfect time to schedule a visit with a sunrise on purpose? There are few things that are as inspiring as a seeing the sun inch its way up the horizon. It brings new hope, and new beginnings. Yet it’s another place where many people miss the opportunity to be grateful simply because they get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the every day life, alarms, traffic, getting to work on time. “Sunrise doesn’t last all morning, a cloudburst doesn’t last all day, seems my love is up and has left you with no warning. It’s not always going to be this grey. All things must pass, all things must pass away.” ~ George Harrison “We can only appreciate the miracle of a sunrise if we have waited in the darkness” “ “Lost, yesterday, somewhere between sunrise and sunset, two golden hours, each set with sixtydiamond minutes. No reward is offered for they are gone forever. ~ Horace MannPositive Imperative Qustion PIQ With the above quote in mind, is there a date with a sunrise you can make? With each sunrise we start a new. Big Hugs! Good Neighbours are easy to tell
Good Neighbours are easy to tell

Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme 154 Today we are thankful for Good Neighbours! You notice we didn’t say “Perfect Neighbours”. Putting out the energy vibration that you do in-fact love your neighbour, barking dog (I have one of those) or not is the best way to build a positive community. Like all Positivity in the world it all starts at home with one person, and it is all as important as that ripple. Like in-laws, neighbours sometimes get a bad wrap, and when you’re looking for the negative, you get ideas like Good fences make good neighbours. The glass is definitely half empty. On the other hand when you have this attitude….. The capacity for getting along with our neighbor depends to a large extent on the capacity for getting along with ourselves. The self-respecting individual will try to be as tolerant of his neighbor’s shortcomings as he is of his own. – Eric Hoffer you are quite often among those who create long lasting relationships with their neighbours. Just the other night, some neighbours came over to wish my son a prosperous trip to Vancouver, and it got me to thinking how lucky I’ve always been at having good neighbours. Over the years they’ve signed for parcels, shovelled my driveway without being asked, boosted my battery, help build porches, make various repairs to our home, lent tools, vehicles, given us food, presents and donated money to charities at the loss of a loved one and driven my wife to the hospital at a moments notice and without hesitation when my daughter got hurt. They’ve smiled, had a beer, shared a laugh and their tough times too. I know our family has done just as many things the other way. That’s truly living and understanding Interdependency. PIQ Positive Imperative Question. How many times to you smile or go out of your way to be nice to your neighbour or simply show them you care? When and how do you think you will do it? Big Hugs! Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme 153 Today we are thankful for our Olympic athletes, their coaches, trainers and supporters. Has the Olympic fever worn off yet? For some it likely has, but for others who really understood the meaning of the Olympics it likely will have an effect on them whether it’s one day, a week, a month or several months since the flame went out. What did you learn?

Clara Hughs, Canadian Flag Bearer, Six Times Medalist and the only athlete to win in both the Summer and Winter games.

There was lots to learn if you watched the Olympics this year. Everything from a tragic death of Georgia Luger, Nodar Kumaritashvili, to come from behind victories, to watching the host nation (Canada) demonstrate a level of pride seldom seen in their history. The ultimate lessons though was the same ones that can have been taught at any previous Summer or Winter Olympics and that is simply the athletes commitment to excellence as well as the courage to stick their neck out and lay it on the line. They did so with thousands of spectators, hundreds of cameras and journalists and often their countries hopes and aspirations laid upon their shoulders. The number of athletes who had undergone at least one and sometimes several surgeries for knees, ankles, shoulders and many other joints and bones is astounding. Perhaps the most amazing of all when we witnessed a skier or other athlete wipe out on a final run was that thought that they trained and worked for four years for the thirty seconds or four minutes or other relatively short period of time to put it on the line. Translated into hours, these athletes dedicated more time and energy than most of us can really imagine. Add to that parents and friends who drove and cheered, coaches that had incredible dedication and trainers that worked tirelessly to help their athletes excel. It so sounds like a cliche, but if you really got it, each time you did, the bar was raised for us, and for that we are eternally grateful. PIQ Positive Imperative Question. Is there some area in your life, that learning or watching the Olympics can help inspire you to greater levels of your life? Big Hugs! Why Posithanks could change your life!

Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme 152 Today we are thankful for quotes that inspire and make us think. Quotes to remember.Quotes stand the test of time, and sometimes can sum up in once sentence an idea that takes others a page or even a book to try and capture the essence.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” – Margaret Mead (1901-1978), Anthropologist and Writer

Quotes can leave a person with a determination to change their life. I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something I can do.Edward Everett Hale

Do not go where the path may lead,

go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. Ralph Waldo Emerson

Quotes can give you a paradigm shift. “Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts.” ~ Albert Einstein Quotes can help us to Evolve as humans. “A human being is a part of a whole, called by us _universe_, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest… a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.” ~ Albert Einstein PIQ Positive Imperative Question. We become what we think about. Quotes can do a lot to elevate your life and help both inspire you and create a more positive focus and world around you. How often do use quotes. Are there places in your life you can insert your favourite quotes to keep you inspired? Big Hugs! Why Posithanks could change your life!

Posithanks Volume 6 –> 365 Themes Of Gratitude. Theme 151 Today we are thankful for The Journey of Life. Although I have been writing a journal since 2001, it wasn’t until last year when I familiarized myself with the whole social Internet media of You Tube, Facebook, and Twitter, that I started to share those thoughts publicly with you including today’s Poisthanks. I am grateful for the lifelong journey I travel through; with all the shortcomings, sufferings and everything else that comes with being a human being. I have learned one main thing, and that is I CAN’T COMPLAIN. The words of wisdom from avid morning coffee drinkers I have served at the McDonald’s of the small town Pana, Illinois have taught me many lessons. Sitting in with the “GOLDEN AGE SENIORS” of men and women, I am in awe when I leave the table with words of wisdom they have shared with me. Their life experiences and stories are a highlight of my day whenever I journey into town and sit in amongst the regular patrons. Their ages are beautifully beyond my time spent thus far along my journey here on Earth and the stories of their unique journeys and the many hardships they have endured, one would never be able to tell just looking at them. What I have come to respect is this life….MY LIFE; this journey of life we all walk through and as many times I wake up and realize each day is a new day, it is! I recognize that this journey is..ONLY THE BEGINNING! I want to share here with the folks reading the POSITIVE IMPERATIVE that this POSIMASS of effectual POSITIVITY and our journey as an online community has only just begun. The RIPPLE is RIPPLING and the POSIEFFECT is POSIATTACKING…click, click..BOOM!!! WE ARE THE WORLD’S GENERATION OF A POSIFULLEFFECTIVENESS OF GREATNESS. Let’s continue collaborating our MINDS and SPIRITS of LOVE. Love is the most POWERFUL gift this world can receive. “Wherever I go, and whomever I encounter, I will bring them a gift. The gift may be a compliment, a flower, or a prayer. Today, I will give something to everyone I come into contact with, and so I will begin the process of circulating joy, wealth and affluence in my life and in the lives of others.” ~ Deepak Chopra PIQ Positive Imperative Question As we go about in our daily lives let’s make it a goal to leave a lasting impression with the social interactions with others. The RIPPLE EFFECT is effective when we can create this POSIMASS of communal POSITIVE vibrations—-MIND, BODY and SPIRIT throughout OUR JOURNEY OF THIS LIFE…RIPPLE ON! What are some of the positives you’re going to do? Thanks for stopping by, until next time…Stay Gold!!!! and BE the Positive energy that this world needs… the Poetoflife, the Voice of Tomorrow Mary Ann O’ Rourke, Please take the time and share your thoughts and help inspire others by leaving your comments here._____________________________________________________________________________________________
