Like any topic on the surface Positivity is a pretty simple subject. Smile and put on a game face. However, if it was that simple, then the self-help industry wouldn’t be a billion dollar industry and we would likely have world peace. So while that seems a bit outrageous too, at its core level Positivity when enacted and congruent is as apt to change the world as anything else the world has tried. However, there are some concepts and principles which take it from a simple subject to a lifelong study. When you put the totality of it together we call the concept “Holistic Positivity” which you can read more about here. Learn more.
The first paradigm shift of the Positive Imperative and the study of Positivity is a vocabulary change. We have lived in a world with a negative based vocabulary, instead of answering a question when asked to do something with the word “certainly” we answer with two negative words “no + problem.” Along with that has come the vocabulary right & wrong and good and bad. We’re right and what they did was wrong. While there is no question that in some simple terms and applications there could be a truth to that statement we all agree upon, however in far too many situations the interpretation is based on subjective input based upon culture, personal biases, and often many different communication barriers which then starts to polarize the conversation and put up walls.
The whole notion of being right also adds to the conversation the word EGO and pride which can be attributed to everything from wrongful dismissal on the one hand to honour killing on the other extreme. In order for the world to change, these evaluation systems and the context from which they come must also change.
It goes without saying that taking a shot of positivity or a positive song is no different than saying I took a shower or went for a workout last week. Better yet, taking your vitamins last week would not have much impact on your health today. Your mind is a muscle and needs constant conditioning and Positivity needs constant reinforcement in a negative world. Put another way, especially for those of us in the western world, many of us have the attention span of a fly, and if we aren’t constantly working and immersed in positivity it is way too easy for us to revert back to old negative thinking and scripts and as we know those can undermine positivity like the domino effect.
Stephen Covey identified one of his 7 Highly Effective Habits as “Sharpen The Saw”. It’s a simple concept yet profoundly leads to a more effective and efficient effort at cutting down a tree. There was the Little House on The Prairie episode where the central character Charles Ingles (Played by Michael Landon) was in a log cutting competition with a man twice his size. The larger and stronger man used brute force but eventually got bogged down with a dull saw, while Charles stopped to sharpen the blade twice and ended up winning a contest by the sure strength he could never have.
The Positive Imperative is laying the foundation or a Positive Road Map for the secular / spiritual world. Sharpening the saw is key when that saw is the tool from which we operate, for a map its a car, for the saw it’s PosiValues, like taking ownership of Responsibility (the third tenet of PI), in all aspects of life, be it how you drive or putting the plastic bottles back in the trunk of your car until you get to a recycling bin, and not just throwing them in the trash because its convenient.
Positivity with the PosiRatio (see the 3 tenets) either works at the synergy of creating more positives or is a victim of negative dominoes as you only need a few to get in your way and undermine your efforts at creating Positivity. As we evolve into a higher consciousness of Positivity we will learn that Positive Energy, Thought, and Meditation will also play its role.

So you’re saying, OK enough is enough, I can buy into a lot of what you have said on Positivity when it comes to the conditioning of the mind, but how is Positivity going to change the world? Isn’t that the ultimate Polly-Anna view? Well to answer that question let me first say I don’t have any pretensions that the whole world is going to say “Let’s Be Positive” and presto, all wars, and poverty will be gone when we wake up.
What we have tried has not worked and in fact “may” never work. If the two world advocates of Peace haven’t made much headway it’s because both are stuck in grid-lock. While on the one hand, the United Nations may have gained credit in getting all the world players at the table, it’s compromise of giving everyone a veto power on issues like Syria, which means that at the end of the day if their is still a significant world crisis the world will quickly divide up on two sides and we won’t be that much further ahead then when we had the Iron Curtain, though the delineation line may have changed, or in fact several lines may have been created.
While there are so many great values and deeds done through the efforts of religious organizations, at the end of the day major change is still in gridlock between Religious moderates and fundamentalists. Like it or not we live in a world where there is often more antagonism and hatred within some major religions than there is even between different religions. While I wish both entities the best in success for both world peace and poverty, based upon the gridlock many people perceive we must try a new alternative.
To go with this tack you must be “open” to the Possibilities. If you are not already a believer in the power of positive energy you must, at least, be open to the idea that it is there, and also in your present state of awareness the knowledge wheel will state 25% of information you know, 25% you know you don’t know and 50% you don’t know you don’t know. That’s your blind spot and it’s easier to grow the first 25% when you start from that premise.
You could be starting from the belief that the law of attraction and meditation is hokey pokey or wishful thinking. How can energy from the mind actually change the physical world? Well, perhaps watching the video might begin to open up the possibilities of a new reality that becomes a huge paradigm shift.
Music is the universal language and love is the key. Start with your imagination and think what would happen if the whole world sung Bob Marley’s One Love on New Years Eve and from there you can expand the concept to include what if the world sang a different Positive Song each hour for 24 hours, One Love, Imagine, Stand By Me, Give Peace a Chance, What A Wonderful World etc.
Indeed, when you look at the foundations of Positivity, with topics like values, and gratitude, the thoughts
we think, the energy we give, the words we say, the music we listen to and the congruence of Positive Actions all the time, you can and must study Positivity if you want to create a truly positive life and positive world.
Conclusion ~ Where does it fit in.
Like all well-built structures, a solid foundation is imperative for the integrity of the structure. When we have a well-laid foundation of Positivity our resolve and positive energy becomes more abundant and everything we take on be it the Environment, a Safer Community or simply smiling more and hugging more expands greatly. Each time we do that, the world changes with a PosiRipple ever so slightly. When we do that as a large collective we create a PosiMass, and the world changes much faster.
